Will Travel Insurance Cover All My Children For Free?

by Steve Dasseos, The Trip Insurance Guru on March 9, 2009

4 of us are traveling from Chicago including our 22 month old daughter who travels free on the airline. Do we include her in the list of travelers? Or are all children automatically covered free? Paul

Hi Paul,

Two of our travel insurance plans can insure your children up to age 15 free: the Travelex Plus & Lite plans. Two of our travel insurance plans can insure your children up to age 17 free: Travel Guard Gold and Travel Insured Worldwide Trip Protector plans.

Your children aren’t automatically covered, so you have to list your children on the travel insurance application in order for them to be covered.

In addition, though I know you’re not asking, the children who are covered for free must be family members of the first person listed on the travel insurance application. If one of your children’s friends was traveling with your family they aren’t covered for free. They’d have to be listed on their own travel insurance policy.
