My question is: What if we miss the ship in a port for any reason? Excursion ran late, traffic delays, etc. Will travel insurance cover us if we missed the ship’s departure at a port of call? Would it get us to the next port to meet with the ship?
If you miss the ship because your excursion ran late or traffic delays, etc, having travel insurance won’t help you at all. The only part of travel insurance that will help you is if you’re sick / injured and seeking documented medical attention caused you to miss the departure.
The reason the other delays aren’t covered is that it’s the excursion’s obligation to get you back to the ship in time. In the case of a self-guided tour, it’s your personal responsibility to get back to the ship in time.
Here’s more information specifically on how Travel Delay coverage works: http://www.tripinsurancestore.com/3/travel-delay.shtml
I hope this makes sense.
