Is Trip Cancellation Covered Due to H1N1?

by Steve Dasseos, The Trip Insurance Guru on November 18, 2009

I’ve been looking over your very helpful and user-friendly website. Would your plans also cover cancellation due to H1N1? I’d appreciate your help. Regards, Janet

Hi Janet,

Thank you for the kind words.

Yes, our plans can cover cancellation due to H1N1 in three ways:

1) Assuming none of you have H1N1 now, but you get it before you go & your doctor says you can’t travel, you’ll get all your money back up to your per person insured trip cost.

2) If one or more of you (or a non-traveling family member) now has H1N1, that will be considered a pre-existing medical condition. You’ll need to follow all the waiver of the pre-existing medical conditions exclusion rules to be covered.

3) If Swine Flu is everywhere and you’re afraid to go to Wal-Mart, you probably won’t want to go on your trip. The only way to have this covered is with the “Cancel For Any Reason / Change Your Mind” upgrade. This upgrade would add about 50% to the plan’s cost.

Go here to learn more about the “Cancel For Any Reason / Change Your Mind” coverage:

Plus, if you get H1N1 or any other sickness or are injured on your trip you’re covered for the medical bills. Depending on the plan you select, the medical coverage can be as high as $250,000 with no deductibles nor copays. Plus, you’ll have all the other coverages.

I hope this makes sense. If not, call us at 1-888-407-3854 and we’ll help you figure it all out.
