in Ask Steve Dasseos Q&A, How Travel Insurance Works

I wrote “Is it Safe to Get AIG Travel Guard Travel Insurance?” on September 30, 2008. A lot has happened in the past 5 months, including AIG receiving $150,000,000,000 ($150 billion) in US Government Bailout funds.

Hi Steve, my wife wants me to ask you: do you think it’s still safe to get Travel Guard travel insurance?

My answer is “Yes”, but not because I sell Travel Guard. In case you don’t know, I only sell travel insurance plans from 6 pre-screened & handpicked companies.

Why these 6 companies?
TripInsuranceStore.com is like a grocery store with limited shelf space. If a company comes to me and says “we have a really good cookie you should sell”. I’m not going to take away the Oreos, Keebler, Famous Amos, Chips Ahoy! & Milano cookies in order to test out another cookie.

Why Does Steve Still Like Travel Guard?

I used to be a Registered Representative and Certified Financial planner with Series 6, Series 7 and Series 22 securities licenses. Nothing from my past experience tells me to be worried about the safety of Travel Guard.

Insurance companies are regulated by the states’ insurance departments where they do business. This includes the requirement to have substantial financial reserves set aside to pay future claims.

By the way, I’m not downplaying, nor ignoring that the USA & much of the world is in serious financial crisis. As bad as it is, things could be much worse. Like something big hitting our planet. Thankfully that 40 yard wide asteroid missed the Earth by 38,000 miles on 3/2/09!
