Can I Cancel My Trip If I Get A Job?

in Helpful Travel Tips, How Travel Insurance Works

We’re going to Mexico for two weeks this Summer, but my wife “might” get a job in the meantime. She’s currently unemployed. I would like to insure her share of our prepaid non-refundable trip costs because only she would cancel if this happens. I’ve read the certificates and “business reasons” language, but nothing quite fits our situation. She could provide evidence of her new job, start date, no vacation earned, etc. But it’s not really “canceled leave” or a “work relocation”… Could you tell me if this is possible? Thanks, Barry

Hi Barry,

Yes, it is possible to cover your wife for trip cancellation if she got a job. The only plans that will cover your wife are the Cancel For Any Reason” plans.

Here’s what you need to do to qualify for a Cancel For Any Reason” plan:

  • You need to get one of these plans within 14 days of paying the 1st payment on your trip, and
  • You also need to insure 100% of her prepaid non-refundable trip cost, and
  • She also has to be medically able to travel

If she has to cancel her trip, she must cancel it no later than 2 calendar days before her scheduled departure date.
